Artist Statement

My artwork, so far, has consisted of a variety of different drawings, sculptures and digital pieces of work, and it is through this work I have been exploring two different ideas. Firstly, I began using pieces of work to explore how I could use these mediums to show a story to an audience. After developing this idea further, over time it began to change into the idea the second part of my work is based around. This new section of my work is intended to show the relationship between these mediums, specifically how they can be used together to make a larger piece of artwork, with an overall narrative connecting these pieces.

My more recent work has been experimenting with creating interactive sculptures, sculptures that the audience can alter and influence, as I feel this allows the audience to engage more with the work. I’ve been focusing on designing puzzle boxes, as they are intended to be interacted with by an audience. I use sculptures to show how they can be made, with handmade drawings/blueprints and digital works attempting to add more detail and context to them.

This is easier to see when these pieces are all viewed together by an audience, showing the different sides and layers to each piece of work that one medium might not be able to show on its own. These sculptures and drawings are typically very geometric in design, typically being made from wood and other materials given that they are easier to use.
